The Spice Tour, Prison Island and Stone Town Tour in Zanzibar:
Morning: Spice Tour
- 9:00 AM – Pickup from Hotel: Your guide will collect you from your accommodation.
- 10:00 AM – Spice Farm Visit: Arrive at a local spice farm to explore and learn about various spices, herbs, and tropical fruits cultivated on the island. You’ll have the opportunity to see, smell, and taste spices such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and more. The tour also includes a traditional Swahili lunch prepared with the spices you’ve learned about.
Midday: Prison Island Tour
- 12:30 PM – Boat Ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island): Depart from Stone Town by boat to Prison Island, located approximately 5.6 km northwest of Stone Town. The boat ride offers scenic views of the coastline and takes about 20-30 minutes.
- Prison Island Exploration: Upon arrival, you’ll have the chance to:
- Giant Aldabra Tortoises: Meet and interact with the resident tortoises, some of which are over a century old.
- Historical Prison Ruins: Learn about the island’s history, including its use as a quarantine station and its intended purpose as a prison.
- Snorkeling and Beach Time: Enjoy the clear waters around the island, perfect for snorkeling and observing marine life.
- 3:00 PM – Return to Stone Town: Board the boat back to Stone Town.
Afternoon: Stone Town Tour
- 3:30 PM – Stone Town Exploration: Embark on a walking tour of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich history and vibrant culture. Key highlights include:
- Anglican Cathedral: Visit the former slave market site and learn about Zanzibar’s history in the slave trade.
- House of Wonders (Beit-al-Ajaib): Explore the National Museum of Zanzibar, showcasing the island’s heritage.
- Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe): Discover the oldest building in Stone Town, which now hosts cultural events and shops.
- Darajani Market: Experience the bustling local market where residents buy their daily goods.
- Freddie Mercury House: See the birthplace of the legendary Queen singer.
- Narrow Streets and Architecture: Admire the unique blend of Arab, Persian, Indian, and European architectural styles as you wander through the labyrinthine alleys.
- 5:30 PM – Drop-off at Hotel: Your guide will escort you back to your accommodation, concluding the day’s tour.
